At the Capitol
The 2019 legislative session is rapidly approaching. The first regular session of Arizona's 54th Legislature is scheduled to commence on January 14, 2019.
Throughout the session, the League offers a full suite of services and publications to help Arizona cities and towns communicate more effectively with their legislative delegation and monitor issues that affect Arizona communities.
The League is prepared to help organize and facilitate a legislative day for your community. This is an opportunity for local officials to discuss legislative issues over a private lunch with their representatives and senators. The League provides a convenient meeting space with catered lunch and can work with you on the meeting arrangements. Contact Legislative Director Nick Ponder at firstname.lastname@example.org or 602-258-5786 to schedule your 2019 legislative day.
Municipal Policy Statement
The 2019 Municipal Policy Statement outlines the legislative priorities of the League for the upcoming session. It also includes a directory of legislators and the cities and towns they represent. You can access the statement online by clicking here.
Every week during the session, the League electronically distributes its Legislative Bulletin. This publication summarizes bills that may impact municipalities. If you are not on our distribution list and would like to be added, please contact email@example.com or 602-258-5786.
Legislative Bill Monitoring
The League maintains its own page dedicated to tracking bills of municipal significance. You can click here to get the latest information regarding a bill's status in the legislative process, the provisions of the bills and the League's position on the bill.
The League encourages municipalities to invite their delegations to participate in local meetings to discuss legislative issues and priorities. Town hall meetings represent an excellent forum for your legislators to learn more about the issues affecting your community.
Your Voice at the Capitol
Each session the League staff prepares "Your Voice at the Capitol," which in addition to containing a listing of state legislators by district, their contact information, and the cities and towns they represent, provides helpful tips for navigating the legislative process and being effective at the Capitol. Legislative 101 Webinar
The League recently held a Legislative 101 Webinar to highlight the basics of the Arizona Legislative Session. League Legislative Associate Tom Savage is featured in this training video, which can be viewed by clicking here.
