Goodyear Finance Department Receives National Award for Annual Accounting, Reporting Excellence

The city of Goodyear's Finance Department is continuing to be recognized on a national level for its high standards in annual reporting.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada again awarded the city of Goodyear the prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2012.

The award was announced this month and is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting financial reporting. It marks the fifth straight year that the city of Goodyear has won the award for effectively communicating its financial story with full disclosure and to motivate existing user groups and potential users to read it.

In addition to the Certificate of Achievement Award, an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement (AFRA) will be presented to those responsible for preparing the report.

"We pride ourselves in fiscal responsibility, smart spending and financial reporting," said Larry Lange, Director of the city of Goodyear's Finance Department. "By following the GFOA's grading guidelines, it helps up show a comprehensive picture of our accounting methods and how we can fine-tune them when necessary so others understand how important it is to let our citizens know we closely monitor taxpayer dollars."

Earlier this year, the city of Goodyear was awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the GFOA, highlighting the city's long-standing methods of fiscal responsibility, marking the 12th straight year and 17th time overall the Finance Department won that award.

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) is a nonprofit professional association serving about 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
